In the winter update of the messenger, the Data and Memory section has seen some impressive improvement. Let’s see what has changed!

To get to the aforementioned section, you should go to Settings and select Data and Memory.

In all the official Telegram clients, this section has an identical design and offers the same features. Here you need to pay attention to Memory Usage and Network Usage.

The Memory Usage tab allows you to use a beautiful diagram to monitor how much space Telegram is taking up on your device. If necessary, you can either clear the entire cache or delete separate items — stickers, photos, videos, files, profile pictures, and more.

In addition, you can clear the cache from separate personal chats, groups, and channels. Note that the deletion process allows for a certain flexibility. For example, in a personal chat you can either clear the entire cache or get rid of standalone items such as photos and videos.

The Memory Usage tab also enables you to set up auto-deletion of media to free up space on your device memory. In addition, you have an opportunity to separately set the deletion period for certain personal chats, groups, and channels. There are several options to choose from: a day, a week, a month — or never.

There are also exceptions when this setting is selected by the user individually in a particular chat, group or channel.

Naturally, there is also an option to choose the maximum size of the cache. This setting is not enabled by default, but if necessary, Telegram allows you to set a convenient limit. For example, it can be 5 GB, 20 GB, or 50 GB.

The Network Usage tab also contains a special chart that showcases all the statistics of network usage since a certain date. For your convenience, the messenger has divided the statistics into total traffic, mobile data, and Wi-Fi.

There you can find out how many MBs or GBs you spend while downloading videos, photos, files, messages, music, stickers, voice messages or calls. Each item includes information about the amount of traffic received and sent. There’s also data on the total amount of traffic you’ve used in a given period of time.

In general, the Data and Memory section also allows you to choose limits for media autoloading via the mobile network and via Wi-Fi, specifying the level of traffic consumption and deciding in what particular chats, channels, and groups you’d like to have autoloading on. You can also determine the maximum size of videos and other animated files suitable for autoloading.

Moreover, you have an opportunity to specify whether you would like to save media from personal chats, groups, and channels to your media library, reduce call traffic, and play videos and GIFs automatically.
